TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Ephesians 5:1-2

Read: Ephesians 5:1-2

Listen: Ephesians 5

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Children were disposable in ancient Rome. When a baby was born, it was laid at the father’s feet. He would pick it up if he wanted it. If not, it was placed on a hillside garbage dump where speculators inspected it to decide if it was healthy enough to be raised and sold as a slave—or left to die.

Christians during this time knew full well what it meant to be the adopted children of God.

We were deluged by God’s generosity long before we ever made a move toward him. “He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will” (Ephesians 1:5). The God of the universe picked you out, picked you up and brought you home through the death of his only son.

God is generous at the very core of his being. Understanding that should affect you at the very core of your being. Just as Christ loved you—his love should spill out of your life in everything you say, do and touch.
