TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35

Read: Acts 20:35

Listen: Acts 20

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Jesus said, “It is better to give than to receive.” Paul challenges the Ephesian church leaders not to be out for themselves but to be generous. This generosity was a hallmark of the early church. As they understood the grace they received, they became grace givers. As the Jesus message spreads, whole life generosity radically reshapes the world in a few centuries.

We have experienced God’s incredible generosity like the early Jesus followers. Jesus’ work on the cross is the ultimate act of generosity. God’s generosity should lead to generosity in every area of our lives. It should lead to whole life generosity.

This past weekend, Brad Formsma encouraged us—no matter our financial level—to be generous. We are not only to be financially generous but to make whole life generosity core to who we are. We do this as we move from awareness to making it a habit to having an impact. When we practice whole life generosity, we begin to realize it is not just for the people receiving the generous acts—but also for our growth. Our generosity changes us.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Write a note saying, “Thank you” to someone who has been generous to you in the past. Share with them the story of how their generosity impacted you. Say a prayer of thanks for God’s generosity to you through them.
