February 14 | Honoring Dignity

February 14, 2018

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27

Read: Genesis 1:26-27

Listen: Genesis 1

TODAY’S MESSAGE

God created the heavens and the earth. He was proud of his creation, and he believed it was good. He made man and woman as the culmination of his creative work. They were “good,” like the rest of creation, but they had something all the rest of creation lacked. They were special. They were created in the image of God.

As Genesis 1:27 tells us, we are special. We have value because the Creator of the universe says so. Yet, at times, we question our value and the value of others. We hurt with biting language, we ignore, and we think sinful thoughts about others. Sometimes we let our actions and the actions of others diminish our value.

If we saw one another as God sees us—we would desire to serve. If we truly saw every individual as the culmination of God’s creative work, we would be motivated to honor the dignity of all people. We would serve—knowing we are the hands and feet of God. We would serve—so we could honor the value God has given to us all.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

In your Chair time today, spend a few minutes thinking about how God views you. Consider that you are a loved child of God and that you have dignity and worth because the God of the universe says so. Listen to the song Give Me Your Eyes by Brandon Heath. Let the words of this song be your prayer today. Pray that God would help you see people as he does.
