TODAY’S MESSAGE

Paul encourages the believers in and around Ephesus to practice whole life generosity. As a group of first generation believers, they are learning what it means to follow Jesus. The story of God’s grace radically redirected their lives. They experienced God’s grace, but still needed a reminder of how the grace of God should spill out of their lives. Paul writes to motivate them toward whole life generosity. He wants them to remember that since they are gift receivers, they should become gift givers.

Like those early believers, God’s grace can radically reshape our life. Remembering God’s generosity motivates us to move from gift receivers to gift givers. God’s grace should spill from our lives through a whole life generosity that includes hospitality, finances, time and words. Words have enormous power. Being generous with our words means we choose to be a builder. We build up others when we use our words to comfort, encourage, bless, protect, inquire and correct.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Ask God to help you be more aware of your words this week. We can often get into deep ruts with our words and sometimes don’t realize how we talk to those around us, especially those closest to us. Ask God to draw attention to the times our speech tears down. Ask him to help you recognize opportunities to build with your words.
