TODAY’S MESSAGE

Judas Iscariot is a name that’s become synonymous with betrayal. But he had a chance to relent from the evil that was in his heart.

Jesus and the disciples sat around the table the night before he was crucified. Here Jesus identifies Judas and gives him a warning. Even up to the final moment, Jesus is full of love for his weak-hearted disciple. Though Jesus’ crucifixion was imminent, Judas didn’t have to play a role. Judas bore such guilt and shame that he took his own life in the end.

Sometimes God attempts to arrest our attention as we are in the process of trying to do something that will be damaging. But we must choose to listen. He says to us, “Don’t do what you’re about to do!” This not a message of judgement—but of love. It is often terribly difficult to relent from what we’re going to do. We don’t truly believe the consequences will be that bad. We can choose our sin, but we can’t choose our consequences.

God’s warning to us can come through various means such as a godly person speaking truth into our life, a passage of Scripture or simply the conviction of the Holy Spirit. Whatever the means God uses to warn us—we should heed that warning and surrender ourselves to his desires.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Take a moment today to do two things. First, reflect on a time when God warned and prevented you from doing something that might have had devastating consequences. Second, ask God for humility to accept his gracious warnings in your life.
