TODAY’S MESSAGE

“God, do you have any idea what this feels like?” When we’re betrayed or abused, we can be tempted to think God is indifferent to our pain. Betrayal comes in many forms. A parent who abandons his children early in life, a wife who hooks up with her husband’s best friend, or an employer who passes over the loyal employee for their greenhorn nephew. Betrayal can be devastating, leading us to ask, “God, do you have any idea what this feels like?”

Jesus knows betrayal. In the course of one evening, he was betrayed by one disciple and denied by another. This betrayal and denial let us know we worship a God intimately connected to the pain we experience. We are not alone in the cosmos to the experience of loss. Our Savior experienced great loss for you and me. He is tender with us in our pain because he knows what it’s like. There is hope that a better day will come—a promise of restoration, if not in this life, then in the next. It is important to remember this truth.
