Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2

Read: Hebrews 12:2-3

Listen: Hebrews 12

TODAY’S MESSAGE

There was never a time during Jesus ministry that he wasn’t aware of what was coming. He knew he was on the road to the cross. The closer he got, the sharper and more real his pain must have been. Pain of rejection and betrayal, physical torment and finally the pain of separation from God the Father.

Jesus said something remarkable to his disciples the night before his final ordeal began. But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.” Jesus saw beyond his suffering to his resurrection and their ultimate reunion (John 21:1-23). Because he trusted in God’s plan, Jesus looked past his pain to anticipated joy.

The road of life can bring pain you didn’t see coming. You didn’t make the team, another friend is getting married or that bump is a tumor. Sometimes, that pain can cause a “faith-quake” causing you to turn away from God who doesn’t seem to care. Jesus shows us that part of getting through the pain is looking past it. We need to look to the promises of God who understands our suffering (Mark 14:34), leads us to the right place (Proverbs 3:5-6) and promises us an eternal home. (John 14:1-3).
