TODAY’S MESSAGE

Going through a difficult time can be a lonely place. There may be people around you expressing kindness, but they don’t understand how alone you feel. It may be an ACT score too low to get into the college you wanted. Or an invitation to another baby shower when you’re struggling with infertility. Even church can be a lonely place when you’ve lost your spouse and find yourself surrounded by couples.

In the hours leading up to his death, Jesus was alone. The disciples fell asleep when he asked them to pray for him in the Garden. People surrounded him during his trials, but they all wanted him dead. As he took on the sin of the world, even God left him. Jesus faced the final road to the cross totally alone.

There may be no one else alive who understands your aloneness like Jesus does. He passed through the “darkest hour” of his life completely alone. You can go to a God who knows how it feels. “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses” (Hebrews 4:14a).
