TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee.’ There you will see him, just as he told you. Mark 16:7

Read: Mark 16:1-8

Listen: Mark 16

TODAY’S MESSAGE

After the events of Jesus’ death, Peter is extremely disappointed with himself. His fear had prevented him from following through with the most important commitment he had made in his life—to follow Jesus to the death.

But what Peter couldn’t do, Jesus did for him. When Jesus died on the cross, all our sins were forgiven and we’re no longer condemned before him (Romans 8:1). Through Jesus’ death, Peter was forgiven. But he needed to know he was still on the team.

On the day the women find Jesus’ empty tomb, the angel sitting inside singles out Peter in his message to the disciples. Peter’s failure isn’t the final word in the story. He will soon know he is forgiven and will reunite with the risen Jesus in Galilee. It will be exactly as Jesus had promised Peter and the disciples who deserted him (Mark 14:28). As much as we want to do the right thing, we sometimes blow it. Jesus still wants us on the team too—and will never leave us (Hebrews 13:5b).

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Being restored is a process that requires surrendering our failures (sin) to God, relying on Jesus’ forgiveness and moving forward in faith that we are forgiven. As you end this week, journal any area(s) of disappointment in yourself, then apply the restoration process and be reunited in your relationship with Jesus.
