Beyond the Weekend

April 6 | Praising God

April 6, 2018

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. Acts 3:8

Read: Acts 3:6-13

Listen: Acts 3

TODAY’S MESSAGE

When the man lame from birth is healed, it’s no surprise that he’s walking and leaping. Imagine his joy! But what he says is surprising. He clearly heard Peter say, “In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene—walk!” The man believes and gives credit where credit is due—to God. He never mentions Peter or John.

Peter goes on to say that by healing the lame man, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is glorifying his servant, Jesus (Acts 3:13). Peter in no way gives himself credit for what God has done.

When God clearly works in our life, we need to follow the example of the lame man and praise him. Thanking God is important but praising him is giving him glory for who he is, his divine character and his almighty power. Like Peter, we should give God the glory and take a back seat when used to do his work. We can praise God through music, prayer, sharing what he has done and keeping quiet about our part.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Today, practice praising God through the song, “What a Beautiful Name,” by Hillsong. Praise Jesus for dying for you, lifting you up, turning you around and giving you what you need to live the Christian life.
