April 18, 2018

TODAY’S MESSAGE

God appears to Jacob in a vivid dream and affirms the blessing he received from his father, Isaac. Up to this part of the story, Jacob doesn’t view God as HIS God. Jacob wakes from his dream. Realizing he’s encountered the Living God, he humbles himself in worship and trust. Jacob takes the stone that served as his pillow and sets it up as a memorial to God. He then pours out some oil to anoint this hallowed space. This was a significant act of trust as Jacob had a long journey ahead and would need all his resources. He then declares, “the Lord will be my God.”

Jacob’s appropriate response to God’s movement in his life is worship and trust. When we realize God is after us and inviting us to follow him, we’re faced with the question, “How will I respond?”  We experience God when we respond in trust and worship toward God.

This will look different for all of us—maybe we need to offer forgiveness or release a harbored bitterness, take needed steps to walk away from an addiction or sinful habit, or to begin to give generously instead of hoarding our wealth. Whatever the case, when God moves in our lives, we have the opportunity to respond to him in trust and worship just as Jacob did. Watch the video clip below as Pastor Bob King describes how to respond with trust towards God.
