May 30 | Wisdom in Trials

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:5

Read: James 1:5

Listen: James 1

TODAY’S MESSAGE

After joy, James turns to wisdom. Other New Testament passages tell us that the early church met regularly to discuss God’s Word. They gained wisdom from hearing someone read and teach them from Scripture. They met in homes to discuss the Bible for wisdom and insight from one another. And they spent time on their own talking with God and studying his Word.

This was often difficult for the early Christians because they were scattered from the Jerusalem church. James knew they would need wisdom to handle their difficult trials and wanted to remind them that wisdom comes from God and his Word.

Today we are in need of wisdom just as much as those early believers.

At Ada Bible Church, we often talk about three main environments where God pours out his wisdom. The first is the Row—time in weekend services where we learn from Scripture through clear teachings from Teaching Pastor Jeff Manion and others. There is the Circle—small group gatherings of believers who wrestle with Scripture and challenge one another in their walk with Christ. Then there is the Chair—when we spend alone with God and his Word. Christians who engage consistently in these three environments will experience growth in wisdom, maturity, and Christlikeness.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Spend a few minutes assessing how you are interacting with the Row, Circle, and Chair. Pray to our generous God for wisdom and ask that he would help you to discern how you are doing in these three environments. Write down a next step you can take in the Row, Circle or Chair this week.
