TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Why do you call me, “Lord, Lord,” and do not do what I say? Luke 6:46

Read: Luke 6:46

Listen: Luke 6

TODAY’S MESSAGE

The command to be a doer of the Word, and not just a hearer, didn’t start with James. He heard it from Jesus. In fact, this quote is from a Jesus story. Jesus compares someone who’s only a hearer to someone who builds a house with no foundation. When the storm (“the torrent’) hits the house, it collapses and is destroyed. It’s the same for us. If we say we’ve made Jesus Lord our life (our master), but don’t follow His teaching, we’re headed for disaster. The storms of life will hit, and it will quickly become clear that we’ve built our life with no foundation.

Building our lives on the solid foundation Jesus offers is as simple as being a hearer and a doer. This week we’ve looked at three specific areas: our speech, helping those in need and our relationship to the culture. So, the question remains, “How well are you doing?”

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

As the work week wraps up and you look forward to the weekend, take some time over the next three days to seriously ponder the question, “How well are you doing?” Get alone with your Bible for an extended period. In conversation with God, talk about these three areas. Ask him to reveal things which need to be changed and for the courage to make the changes.
