TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. Psalm 40:1-2

Read: Psalm 40

Listen: Psalm 40

TODAY’S MESSAGE

King David walked humbly with God through very difficult circumstances. He was pursued by the enraged King Saul and hunted by his own sons. However, through it all, he trusted God to establish and protect him. David likens his calamity to falling into a “muddy, slimy pit” (Psalm 40:1-2). He waited patiently for God’s provision—and God came through.

We are no different. Life has a way of knocking us down. Grief, anxiety, addiction, and failure are many of the pits that can envelop us in mud up to our necks. But God desires to deliver us from those low places.

James writes to the early Christ-followers this way: “Humble yourself before the Lord and he will lift you up” (James 4:10). He draws near to the humble but opposes the proud. As we learn to exercise trust and dependence, God becomes the pillar and foundation of our life.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Take a moment to “save as” James 4:10 below as your lock screen for your mobile device. Let this verse encourage and strengthen you. Know that God is your help when you’re feeling low. He is the solid foundation that will not falter. As we surrender our desires to him, God graciously forms his character in our lives, and we will begin to manifest his goodness in all our relationships.
