August 8 | The Experience of Rescue

August 8, 2018

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion. The Lord protects the unwary; when I was brought low, he saved me. Psalm 116:5-6

Read: Psalm 116:5-12

Listen: Psalm 116

TODAY’S MESSAGE

After the near-death situation has faded into a memory, the psalmist embraces what God has done for him and who God is. He recognizes God is gracious, righteous and compassionate. Through the experience of the rescue, he sees God’s character more clearly. He knows God has moved him from a season of mess to a season of rest.

There are times in our lives when we move from a season of mess to a season of rest. The natural response is often to carry on with our lives. We are glad we are done with the mess so we can move on to more important things. When we experience rescue, we need to pause and recognize both the rescue and God’s work in it. Even in those times where the rescue isn’t exactly what we desired, God has helped bring us through our lowest point. He is there with us.
