Read: Psalm 65:9–13

Listen: Psalm 65

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Reading through the Psalms feels like a roller coaster of emotion. From one psalm to the next, we experience everything from the rush of incredible joy to the terror of unbearable sorrow. We resonate with the raw emotions we feel in the Psalms—because they’re ours as well. The psalmists experienced what we experience, and their words often express exactly what we feel. When we look closely at the themes the psalm writers return to time and again—God as Creator and Provider, disappointment in all sorts of ways and rescue—we are drawn closer to the God of all hope.

Bringing Psalm 65 to a close, we can imagine King David surveying the abundant fruitfulness of orchards and fields surrounding Jerusalem. He’s reminded of God’s goodness as the creator, designer and provider of all that he sees such as the water for irrigation, the overflowing vegetable carts and the valleys with row after row of grain. He recognizes in that moment that all is right, fruitful and productive. Everything is coming together. Both the storehouses and his heart are full.
