TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

He refreshes my soul. Psalm 23:3a

Read: Psalm 23:1-3

Listen: Psalm 23

TODAY’S MESSAGE

David writes that God is his shepherd. David grew up as a shepherd and understood the dynamic between sheep and shepherd very well. He recognized the great responsibility the shepherd has for the sheep. At the same time, he also knew how dependent the sheep are on the shepherd. Without the shepherd, the sheep won’t survive let alone thrive. With a good shepherd, the sheep find their needs met, are content and being restored. That’s what happens in the pasture.

God offers the same for us today. He offers us himself. But like sheep, we can’t find the pasture on our own. That place where our needs are met, the place of contentment and the place of restoration. We need someone to guide us there. This requires a great deal of humility. It means we admit that all the things we thought would meet our needs, bring us contentment and restoration actually won’t. Money won’t do it. Sex won’t do it. Getting all A’s won’t do it. A bigger house won’t do it. An electric car won’t do it. Being named CEO won’t do it. Making captain of the team won’t do it. We have to humbly admit we need Jesus and start following him. Then we begin to find our needs truly met and rest in the place of true contentment and restoration.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

On the top of a page in your journal or on a piece of paper, write three words: contentment, security and restoration. Read through Psalm 23 and note some of the things God offers in this passage that can give us contentment, security and restoration. Write the verses in your journal or on the paper.
