TODAY’S MESSAGE

Jesus gave a taste of what life would be like in the new heaven and new earth. Yet, he made it clear he wasn’t supposed to be the only sample. He told his followers to continue his work. Jesus wanted his followers to be a community of healers. The early church followed through (see the story of Fabiola in A Doubter’s Guide to Jesus, pages 81-82).

Like Jesus, today the church is supposed to be a sample of what life will be like in the new heaven and new earth. We are supposed to love each other and take care of each other—to be a community of healers. When someone spends time with a Christian or steps into a church, they should be getting a sample of the life Jesus offers. Watch the video clip below of Pastor Jeff Manion explaining that as we progress through our day, our actions have the opportunity to heal or to break—to bring life or to take it.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Consider how you can be a healer. People all around us have physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Through your actions, you have the choice to be a healer or to make things worse. Think about the people you encounter on a regular basis. Ask yourself the tough question: Do you heal or break? Ask God to show you ways you can be a healer to those around you.
