TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say that I am?”  Mark 8:29a

Read: Mark 8:29

Listen: Mark 8

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Jesus’ initial question was about them—the nation of Israel. “Who do people say I am?” The disciples’ answers were generic and varied.

But Jesus suddenly shifts the spotlight from them to you. “What about you? Who do you say I am?” Jesus is asking them to get real and make a decision. Bantering about what the nation thought was interesting and fun talk. But it really didn’t make that much difference. What mattered was how each of them, individually, answered the question. Each disciple had to conclude.

We do too. We can be raised in a Christian home, read great books about Jesus, attend Christian schools and engage in stimulating discussions. All of this is good, interesting and challenging. But it all can avoid answering Jesus’ question, “Who do you say I am?” We can’t rely on the faith of our parents or our spouse, our religious heritage or the church we attend. The spotlight is now directly on us. It’s time for a decision.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Answer the question, “Who do I think Jesus is?” Journal your answer. Maybe you’re not sure how to answer the question. Or maybe you’ve decided but have never personally received Jesus’ gift of grace and forgiveness. Either way, we’d love to have a conversation with you. Email us at btw@adabible.org to start a conversation.
