TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins. Ephesians 2:1

Read: Ephesians 2:1–3

Listen: Ephesians 2

TODAY’S MESSAGE

It’s bad news. Worse than you think. Way worse than you want to admit. Paul gives us the bad news that our sin problem has corrupted us. Sin is an inoperable cancer in our character. This includes when we say things we shouldn’t and when we do what we know is wrong. It also includes when we don’t say what we should and when we don’t do the right thing even when we know better.

Paul gives us three reasons why we are this way. First, the world pulls us that way. Culture continually tells us it is all about us, just do whatever is convenient and only think about ourselves. Second, there is actually a strong power battling against God for control of the world—more going on than we can see. Third, something is broken inside of us. We are selfish, it’s bad news, and we need to be honest about it.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Be honest about the bad news. Using your notes app or a notebook, try and track the things you say or do that you shouldn’t over the course of the day. Track the things you don’t say or do that you should. At the end of the day, review the list. Confess those things to God and admit that you need help.
