Beyond the Weekend

November 2 | The Response

November 2, 2018

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10

Read: Ephesians 2:1–10

Listen: Ephesians 2

TODAY’S MESSAGE

God’s handiwork. Let that sink in. Paul describes us as God’s masterpieces. When God throws a party—we are what he shows off. Our transformed lives are God’s ArtPrize entry. God rescued us for the same reason he created us. He wants us to be works of art.

In today’s verse, Paul also writes that God created us to do good works. Good works aren’t how we reach up to God, but how we reach out to others. Good works are how we become the type of person God created us to be. They are how we live like we are spiritually alive.

It has been said Christianity isn’t about earning—but it does require effort. All good art requires effort and takes time. Growing as a Christian is a combination of the right effort over time. Just like creating art, there will be times when we feel like we are making progress. Then there will be times when we feel like we need to reassess our direction. We need to listen to what Jesus said, surrender our lives to his authority and keep applying his teaching to our lives

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

During our weekend service, we sang the song “Yes I Will.” This song reflects the decision we must make in our heart that even when things aren’t going the way we want them to, we will still praise and glorify God. We can do that with our words, but as God’s artwork—the best way we do that is through our actions. Today, watch and reflect upon the song “Yes I Will” and make that commitment to God.
