TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 1 Corinthians 15:22

TODAY’S MESSAGE
The week before his crucifixion, Jesus raised a man from the dead. His good friend Lazarus had been sick. Even though his sisters called for Jesus to come immediately, he deliberately delayed arriving. By the time he arrived, Lazarus had died. Moved by the sorrow of death, Jesus goes to the tomb and calls Lazarus out. Lazarus appears still wrapped in grave clothes alive and fully human. This event foreshadows the power of God that will also raise Jesus from the dead.
The significance of this requires a rewind to the Garden of Eden. Choosing to disobey God, Adam and his wife Eve ate from the forbidden tree., Sin entered the world as a result (Genesis 3:17-19). Adam changed our destiny by leading everyone born after him into spiritual death and eternal separation from God. On the other hand, Jesus leads us back to God. He chose to obey God and bear the punishment for our sin by dying on the cross in our place.
John Dickson writes, “What Adam was to world history, Jesus is to God’s future kingdom.” Jesus is the new Adam who restores us to a relationship with God and secures our place in the New Heaven and Earth. His bodily resurrection gives us a glimpse into life in heaven.
