November 20, 2018

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Listen: John 13 & 14

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Jesus tells his disciples that he will soon have to leave them. Confused, they ask him questions to figure out where he is going and how they can follow. This confusion reaches a climax as Jesus tells them he is going to his Father’s house and, amazingly, that they already know how to get there. But a confused Thomas asks, “How can we know the way?” They want Jesus to give them directions and a destination. But instead of “GPS coordinates,” Jesus tells them that he (Jesus) is the way.

It’s hard for us to imagine what the disciples would have felt as they heard this. Almost certainly, they would have been shocked. The path towards God is not one paved with asphalt or rocks, not found through religious observance and not based on living a good life.  Jesus is the only way to God. Today, let this truth draw us to worship our God who made himself known and prepared the way to himself via a relationship with Jesus.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Meditate on the truth that Jesus is the way to God the Father. With your hands stretched out and opened, thank God that the path to him doesn’t depend on you and your actions but through his son Jesus.
