Beyond the Weekend

November 28 | You are the Program

November 28, 2018

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the othersPhilippians 2:3-4

Read: Philippians 2:3-8

Listen: Philippians 2

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Jesus wants serving to be our mindset and not something we do to feel good or earn praise. He wants to dwell in our heart, so our heart becomes his heart. Not like Rome’s way of lording their leadership over others but his way of being a humble servant who puts others first.

Ada Bible has a map showing our four campuses. Each location has hundreds of serving opportunities: leading a small group, being on a hospitality team, planting flowers, helping in children’s ministry and more. These are all a part of serving programs that represent the heart of Christ.

Also on that map are dots representing our attenders. There are thousands of them.  Each “dot” has the opportunity to “be the program” by serving people every day in their own sphere. Doing things like making dinner when your wife has had a rough day, getting the mail for an elderly neighbor when it’s pouring rain or clearing snow off the car parked next to yours too. These acts may seem insignificant. But God sees, and is pleased, when the heart of his Son is beating in the chest of believers who “are the program.”

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Jesus said, “Do to others as you would have them do to you,” (Luke 6:31). This makes how and when to serve very easy.  Ask God to help you recognize opportunities to serve others as you move through your day.
