TODAY’S MESSAGE

The holiday season is no stranger to rising anxiety levels. We are pulled in one direction and then pulled the opposite way just moments later. Relationships stretch to the breaking point or beyond. Family issues resurface again during holiday meals. Lingering health issues don’t abate just because it’s Christmas time. In fact, the holidays only seem to magnify the pain and suffering.

In all of this, we’re reminded to bring every one of these issues to God. Our loving Father cares. But amid our requests, our verse today tells us to be thankful. To ask and be grateful. When we do over time, it takes our focus off of us and directs it to God. Gratitude shapes the heart for what God has done and not just for what we want him to do. Looking back on God’s goodness also pushes out complaint, anxiety and envy. It changes our perspective and helps us move in a positive direction.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

As you write your journal responses, take a little extra time when you list three items for which you are thankful. Select one relational event, one element of the day and a specific food item. When you gather for dinner this evening, have each family member share what they selected and why they selected those things.
