TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. Luke 6:45

Read: Luke 6:45

Listen: Luke 6

TODAY’S MESSAGE

In today’s verses, Jesus was speaking to his disciples and giving them instructions on how to live. During part of that conversation, Jesus says, “For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” He wanted his disciples to know that a person cannot harbor anger, fear and sadness in their heart—but then turn around and speak with grace, mercy and patience. The mouth will speak what the heart is full of.

How powerful that is to us today. Whether we realize it or not, whatever our heart is full of will pour out on those around us. They will receive the collateral damage of our negative heart or the blessing of our positive one. Watch the video clip below as Senior Pastor Jeff Manion describes why this is so powerful.

As we approach the Christmas season, let’s work to understand the state of our hearts before we unleash ourselves on our families and co-workers. Learn your heart and ask God for the Fruit of the Spirit you need today. Our relationships with loved ones, coworkers and friends depend on our willingness to do this. For out of our hearts will our mouths speak —this season and always.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

As you complete your Focus For The Season journal entry, write out Luke 6:45 at the top of your page. Give extra attention to assessing your own heart and being filled. Pay close attention throughout the day with how you are doing with the Fruit of the Spirit you asked to be filled with.
