Read: Isaiah 9:6

Listen: Isaiah 9

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Christmas is about an almighty God becoming a child for no other reason than a deep love for people—for us. This child appeared to be an ordinary child. In reality, he was the child the world longed for, a promised child given as a gift.

Isaiah 9:6 expectantly places four names upon Jesus. The first is Wonderful Counselor. Jesus is our wonderful counselor as he guides us through the difficulties of life. He is able to help us make wise plans; he is a brilliant strategist. “Wonderful Counselor” helps us see this about Jesus and also so much more.

Life is crazy. The Christmas season is often even crazier. In the midst of it all, we’re reminded of Jesus—the one who turns chaos into order, the one who has a brilliant, profound, perfect plan for our life. In Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus uses a building analogy to illustrate his teachings on the advantage of living life the way he created us to live. Those who listen to Jesus—this wonderful counselor, wise king, and brilliant strategist—and live their life according to his plans, will be like a house built on a firm foundation.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Complete the final day of the 25-day journal challenge. Take your journal and card and complete the two sentences on the front of the card and list three items for which you are grateful. We hope this “challenge” becomes an ongoing part of your Chair Time. Keep your card in a familiar place and refer to it often. Also, on this Christmas Day, read the entire Christmas story from Luke 2. If possible, gather together those you are with to again marvel at God’s gift of this Wonderful Counselor.
