TODAY’S MESSAGE

In Psalm 143, King David writes about talking to the Lord in the morning. As David appears to be doing here, praying early in the morning is seen frequently in Scripture. Many people got up early and invited God into their day. They were intentional with their schedule so they could connect with God regularly.

Although getting up early in the morning and praying sounds great in theory, sometimes it can be more difficult in practice. Often, we can have the best of intentions but struggle to invite God into our day consistently. One way to beat that is to recalibrate our Chair Time with God by waking up early each morning for the next seven days and spending time with God then.

For some of us, this might develop into an amazing habit to continue beyond the next seven mornings. Others of us who work early, stay at home with kids or work odd shifts may have to schedule our extended time with God for later in the day. That’s ok too as even Jesus prayed at night (Luke 6:12). What’s most important is to be intentional and invite God into your day regularly.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Spend a few minutes thinking about your schedule and decide on a good time for you to set aside for prayer and Bible reading. Then put this in writing by placing it on your calendar. Having trouble? Consider asking others who have been in a similar situation. Wrap up your time by inviting God into your day with a prayer like this, “God thank you for giving me another day to honor you. Please give me wisdom and guide me as I go throughout this day. Amen.”
