Beyond the Weekend

January 11 | Commit to God’s Agenda

January 11, 2019

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.  Ephesians 2:10

Read: Ephesians 2:1-10

Listen: Ephesians 2

The Apostle Paul wrote a letter to a church in the ancient city of Ephesus. He encourages the readers and tells them they are “God’s handiwork.” He reminds them they were created to do good works that God had prepared for them to do. God has a plan for them, not just a plan for what career they should pursue or who they would marry. He has a plan to use them to bless others.

We will each be called to honor God in unique ways with our lives and can daily allow God to direct us. Sometimes we pray and ask God for his leading in big decisions, but we may forget to invite his direction in our daily ones.

Inviting his direction doesn’t have to be complicated, and it doesn’t have to be significant. It starts by getting up, limiting the distractions and listening to the voice of God. This time allows God to recalibrate us—to show us who we are, who God is, and to align ourselves to his agenda.

If you don’t know where to start, begin by asking God in the morning, “Who can I serve today?” “How can I show Christ through my actions today?” “What could I say to encourage someone today?”

These are simple questions—but will have a profound impact on you and those around if you ask the questions and allow God to direct you throughout your day.

With your hands open and your arms outstretched, pray to your heavenly Father. Pray something like this, “God I am open to doing what you have for me today. Use me and show me what steps to take. Help me to show Christ to others through my actions today. Thank you for loving me. Amen.”
