TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before … the [end of your] years approach. Ecclesiastes 12:1a

Read: Ecclesiastes 12:1-8

Listen: Ecclesiastes 12

TODAY’S MESSAGE

The author of Ecclesiastes ends by reminding us we won’t find freedom from anxiety in life by “chasing the wind.” He sums up his thoughts in a positive way by saying to enjoy life right now and not to worry about the future. This might seem like a tall order. Thankfully, he doesn’t leave us hanging but points us toward God our Creator.

God had a clear purpose in mind when he created us. He wants us to enjoy what he has made, but not at the expense of worshipping the creation instead of the Creator. He designed us to find value, meaning and purpose in him. This frees us to enjoy life through the work and leadership he’s assigned us and to enjoy life connecting to others through friendship and family (see Genesis 1-2).

Life is too short to spend struggling for temporal fulfillment through achievements, status and wealth. The author points us toward worshipping and trusting our generous Creator.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Worshipping God with gratitude, and not his creation, is at the center of experiencing the joy he brings to life. Take some time to thank God for his perfect character. Ask him to show you where you may be worshipping the creation, and for his help to enjoy his gifts in their proper place.
