TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. Genesis 2:19

TODAY’S MESSAGE

It would probably be an understatement to call it a chaotic situation. There were creatures of every kind all across God’s newly-created world—from the birds that soared above, animals that roamed far and wide, fish in the sea and everything in-between. But at that moment, in the cacophony of creation, not one animal had a name. God assigned Adam to do something about it as chaos reigned. By naming each creature as God brings them to him, Adam is creating order out of chaos.

By defining work as “creating order out of chaos,” Senior Pastor Jeff Manion allows us to view work precisely as the Bible portrays it. Like Adam, we daily bring order to the chaos around us. We take a multitude of building materials and construct a house, take twelve middle-schoolers and form them into a basketball team, and take a variety of foods and beverages and make a delicious meal. Where chaos once existed—order now prevails.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Start viewing the work you do as “creating order out of chaos.” In your journal, make three lists: Task, Chaos, and Order. First, list all of today’s tasks. Next, identify the current state of chaos for each. Then, describe the order that will (hopefully!) result from your work. Ask God for wisdom, strength, and graciousness as you step into each one of today’s tasks.
