TODAY’S MESSAGE

In our series Work: It Matters, we’ve learned that work is good because God worked at Creation to make order out of chaos, then created us to work as he does. We’ve also learned work is hard, challenging and sometimes painful because Adam and Eve ushered sin into the world, and therefore into work. Even so, we can still find satisfaction and joy in our work by trusting God to do his work in and through us. But what if there is more to work than meets the eye?

There was a time when people believed only nuns, priests and monks did God’s work. Pastor Jeff Manion says all work is an expression of God’s love in disguise. As we do our jobs and perform needed tasks, we become his hands and feet in the lives of people around us.  We become the “masks of God,” who loves people through us. This week we will look at the bigger picture of work as an expression of God’s love, how our own work is part of that, and that it is fueled by God’s overflowing grace.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Consider how both your job and other needed tasks are the “masks of God.” In your journal, write the word “People” at the top. Spend about ten minutes listing as many people as possible who will be impacted by the good work you’re going to do today. At the end of the day, add some you didn’t see and thank God for letting you be his hands and feet as you serve others.
