TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Matthew 7:24

Read: Matthew 7:24-27

Listen: Matthew 7

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Not all Buddhists and Hindus believe the exact same things. But some common elements apply to many followers of the Eastern religions. Some teach that suffering is an illusion to overcome by removing attachment or desire. They teach that physical reality is bad and should be escaped. Finally, many believe they need to earn their way to a better reincarnation.

But Jesus is unique. He taught things drastically different than these beliefs. Jesus didn’t teach that suffering was an illusion—he willingly suffered on our behalf. He didn’t teach that reality should be escaped—he became flesh and will redeem our world. Instead of teaching that we had to earn salvation—he became our mediator and died on our behalf. There is no other figure in human history like him.

Christianity is not about avoiding pain, escaping the world, or earning merit. It’s all about Jesus, the son of God who rescued us. Our faith isn’t in our church, our pastors, or our accomplishments. Our faith is in one thing, and one thing only—Jesus Christ. He is our solid rock, our firm foundation.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

As you head into this weekend, wrap up the week by worshiping Jesus our solid rock. Click this link for a video of the song. As you listen, allow the words to be a reminder that our faith is built on nothing else but Jesus Christ.
