TODAY’S MESSAGE

Up to this point, the other guests at Simon’s party had been observers. But when Jesus announces he forgives her sins, they couldn’t help but jump in. By stating that he forgives the woman’s sins, Jesus outrageously claims he has the authority and power to do so. Basically, Jesus was saying that he was the temple.

The temple was where the Jews would go to experience the presence of God and to deal with their sin. For one thousand years, that building was the focal point of Israel’s relationship with the Creator God. The place where—once each year—God met with man. With this simple statement offering forgiveness, Jesus became a walking, talking temple—turning Simon’s dinner upside down.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

As you head into the weekend, listen to “Who You Say I Am” by Hillsong. Focus on the lyrics, “Who the Son sets free, oh is free indeed. I’m a child of God, yes I am. In my Father’s house, there’s a place for me. I’m a child of God, yes I am.” Thank God that you have been “set free indeed.”
