Read: Luke 9:10-17

TODAY’S MESSAGE

In Dinner with Jesus, we see Jesus uses meals as a way to minister to those around him. This week, we look at a large outdoor meal Jesus provides. This meal is such a big deal that the writers include it in all four gospels. In this story, Jesus tries to get away, but the crowds follow him. When he sees them following him, “He welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who needed healing” (Luke 9:11b). Then he feeds them when they get hungry.

There’s more to the story than just the miracle. Through this meal, we see who Jesus was and what he desires to do in our lives.

Figuring out who Jesus was and what he desires to do in our lives was important to them then and essential to us today as it shapes our view of God, and how we respond to him. This week, we explore those ideas and see what we can learn about Jesus’ responses through this meal.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Consider what you think or feel about Jesus. In your journal, write “Jesus” at the top of the page. Then write down four or five descriptors or feelings that come to mind. Download the lock screen today to remind you of Jesus’ response to the crowd.
