TODAY’S MESSAGE

Food is always an essential part of an outdoor meal, but Jesus uses food to make a massive statement. This story is loaded with imagery and connected to the crowd’s history. They were looking for a new Moses. Jesus was the new and ultimate Moses. Moses prayed, and bread came from heaven. Jesus prays, breaks the bread—and it multiplies.

But Jesus wasn’t the Moses they wanted. They wanted a break with Rome. When Jesus breaks the bread, he foreshadows his body to be broken to rescue them from their sins.

We celebrated communion this past weekend. Communion reflects upon Jesus’ death on the cross, and the rescue it offers us from our sins. His broken body offers us freedom from our sin debt, but also sin’s hold on our daily lives. When we accept his free gift, our sins are forgiven, and we have a relationship with God that should change the way we think, feel and act.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Consider whether you’ve ever accepted Jesus’ offer of forgiveness of sins and relationship with him. If you haven’t—why not take that step today? We would love to connect you with someone to walk alongside you in that decision, so please reach out to us at btw@adabible.org.

If you have made that decision in the past, reflect upon your relationship with Jesus and whether you are following him to get where you want to go or where he is going. Wrap up your week thanking him for loving you and wanting a relationship with you.
