TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

Read: Proverbs 3:5-6

Listen: Proverbs 3

TODAY’S MESSAGE

The book of Proverbs reveals God’s wisdom for everyday life and also shows how desperately we need his help. The author reminds us that our own understanding isn’t enough. Unless we trust and depend on the Lord, our words and our lives will follow a crooked, dangerous path.

We can’t will ourselves out of a pattern of gossip on our own strength or pretend it doesn’t affect us. When we submit our words to the Lord, he will keep us in line with his right way of living. We can confess when we mess up, and he will forgive us (1 John 1:9).  When tempted with a tasty morsel of gossip, he will provide a way to resist (1 Corinthians 10:13). When we recognize our words hold the power of life and death, he helps us choose life (Deuteronomy 30:19).

We can live a better way. We can be the one to put a stop to gossip with God’s help. We can change the trajectory of our words and the lives around us, showing others what God is like.
