Join us as we focus each day for nine weeks on a different part of 1 Corinthians 13.

Saturday: It always protects, always trusts
Sunday: Always hopes, always perseveres.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13:8a

Read: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Listen: 1 Corinthians 13

TODAY’S MESSAGE

First-generation Christians in Corinth were having a hard time living out their new lives in Christ. Instead of living in harmony, their fellowship was divided by bickering and power struggles. When Paul gets word on the state of the church, he writes a strong letter (1 Corinthians) to correct their spirit of arrogance and self-superiority and replace it with God’s unconditional love.

As he reestablishes them in their faith, Paul also reminds us we are no more than noisy gongs if we don’t demonstrate God’s unconditional love to our families, neighbors, coworkers and church family.

Over the nine weeks of this series, we’re challenged to exercise 15 “Habits of Love” (1 Corinthians 13). Using a bookmark and card, we focus each day on two or three habits. It is impossible to love this way without the Holy Spirit’s strength and wisdom working through us. The “Jesus way” of life starts with humility and is not based on self-effort—but God’s strength.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

This not a short-term challenge! This 9-week Habits of Love Challenge should overflow into the rest of our life. This weekend, record in your Culture of the Cross journal on page 46 how God prompts you to demonstrate the 15 habits. If you need help with what these actions look like in your relationships, first ask God to show you. Then share with your small group or talk with a trusted friend to exchange ideas of what these look like for you in different situations.
