TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Love is patient, love is kind. 1 Corinthians 13:4a

Read: 1 Corinthians 13:4a

Listen: 1 Corinthians 13

TODAY’S MESSAGE

The Jesus-message gathered people from all backgrounds. Never before had a message brought such meaningful, yet challenging, connections among diverse people. In 1 Corinthians 13, Paul details a love that brings unity to the body of Jesus-followers. This week, we’re taking a deeper look at patience and kindness for our Habits of Love Challenge.

Love is patient, or long-suffering. Patience pushes pause when emotions threaten to overrun us. Patience slows to the speed of someone lagging. Patience asks God to help us hold our tongue and not roll our eyes. Patience waits willingly.

Love is kind, or useful, serving and gracious. Kindness serves a meal to a hurting family we may not know well. Kindness writes words of encouragement to a discouraged friend. Kindness acts, not because the recipient deserves it, earns it or can repay us. Kindness acts because Christ acted on our behalf and deemed this person worthy of his love too.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Who do you struggle to be patient and kind with? Is there a specific situation where you need God’s strength and power to show love through patience and kindness? Write the person’s name or the situation in your Culture of the Cross Journal on page 50 with a prayer asking God for his power to work through you in this relationship.
