TODAY’S MESSAGE

Thanksgiving should serve as a great reminder to look at the world differently. It should encourage us to look for things to be grateful for—instead of things to get upset about. As part of our 9-week Habits of Love Challenge, this week we are looking at two difficult but life-altering habits for Thursday, “It is not easily angered; it keeps no record of wrongs.”

Gratitude helps us do both of these habits. Training ourselves to look for things to be thankful for reshapes the way we view life. Think of the difference in our marriages if we ended every day thanking God for three things about our spouse, rather than stewing over their deficiencies. It would change the way we view instructions or suggestions from our boss when we focus on their strengths instead of weaknesses. Developing a heart of gratitude stops us being easily angered and alleviates our desire to keep a record of wrongs. Instead, we may start keeping a record of rights.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Ask God to help you be thankful on Thanksgiving. As you go through the day, look for things to be grateful for instead of things to be annoyed by. Focus especially on the people you tend to struggle with the most. Ask God for the strength to share even one thing that you are grateful about that person with them.
