TODAY’S MESSAGE
Paul urges the Corinthians to remember. The Lord’s Supper wasn’t just a ritual given to them by Paul. Christ himself set the way of communion. Jesus gathered his disciples for one final meal the night before his crucifixion. In a holy and intimate moment, Jesus lifted the cup and the bread. He invited his disciples to remember the sacrifice he was about to make with his body and blood. Remembering wasn’t just in a cup and bread—but in the gathering of his followers in harmony and community.
Jesus gave himself for us and urges us to give ourselves for each other. The celebration of communion is both a tool to help us recall his cost and to recount our own cost in following him. Our remembering should result in action. We will not think of ourselves more highly than we should (Romans 12:3). We won’t work out of selfish ambition or pride but will value others above ourselves (Philippians 2:3). Remembering Christ’s humility and sacrifice will affect every area of our lives.
We proclaim the Lord’s death and show the world how to live as we model Christ’s humility, weakness and sacrifice. Remembering demands a response. Through Christ’s strength, we can give ourselves to each other as we set aside our pride, desires and goals for the sake of Christ and others.

On page 68 of your Culture of the Cross Journal, reflect on what it would have been like to sit at the table with Jesus and experience the Lord’s Supper. What might the disciples have been thinking and feeling? How would it have affected them as they thought back on that night in the years to come? Read Luke 22:14-20 for further reflection.
