Beyond the Weekend

December 5 | A Wake-Up Call

December 5, 2019

Join us as we focus each day for nine weeks on a different part of 1 Corinthians 13.
Thursday: It is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat the bread and drink from the cup. 1 Corinthians 11:2

Read: 1 Corinthians 11:27-34

Listen: 1 Corinthians 11

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Paul brings a hard but necessary message to the Corinthians to “examine yourself.” To continue down the current path (of insiders and outsiders) was to sin against Christ and the community. Paul cautions that they are experiencing judgment—for the Lord takes his body, the community of believers, seriously.

Living for self while claiming to live for God is a dangerous place to be. God’s grace doesn’t give us a license to live however we please. We are accountable to God for our actions. If we are doing things to hurt Christ’s body with selfishness and outright meanness, we cannot expect God to be on our side—because we’re not on his side.

So, are we influencing the people around us toward or away from Christ? Are we living deeply connected to each other? Because Jesus selflessly gave himself for us—we should be a selfless Jesus-community carefully evaluating the way we talk and think about others.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Spend time in prayer asking God to reveal if you are contributing to his body positively or negatively. “Father, I desire to build up your body and draw others closer to you. Reveal any actions and attitudes that are creating roadblocks for others. Help me live in a way that represents you well.”
