TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 1 Corinthians 13:6

Read: 1 Corinthians 13:6

Listen: 1 Corinthians 13

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Love is happy about the things God is happy about. To rejoice in the truth—we must be entrenched in God’s truth. Psalm 1 provides a beautiful picture of a wise, loving person who takes great delight in God’s word. The Psalmist reminds us that the wise don’t “walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers” (Psalm 1:1). We walk in step with the wicked when we go along with gossip. We stand with sinners when we celebrate harmful behavior or look the other way. We sit in the company of mockers when we join in tearing someone down or celebrating their downfall.

Rather, the wise and loving rejoices in truth. They meditate on God’s words day and night and become like a fruitful tree planted by a stream (Psalm 1:2). Our words and actions will reflect God’s Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). The wise and loving are deeply rooted in and refreshed by God’s word in the most challenging situations.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Commit Psalm 1:1-2 to memory. Post the verses where you’ll see them often. Ask God to bring these words to mind when you are tempted to tear others down or rejoice in someone’s misfortune.
