Beyond the Weekend

December 20 | The Most Excellent Way

December 20, 2019

Join us as we focus each day this week on a different part of 1 Corinthians 13.
Friday: Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
Saturday: It always protects, always trusts
Sunday: Always hopes, always perseveres.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love1 Corinthians 13:13

Read: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13

Listen: 1 Corinthians 13

TODAY’S MESSAGE

The church in Corinth lacked very little. They had great communicators, highly educated members, significant spiritual gifts and great wealth. They lacked just one thing—love. With so much, what a surprise as they realized they lacked the greatest of things.

Ada Bible Church has everything the church in Corinth had—great teachers, a highly educated congregation, spiritual gifts and extreme wealth. But do we lack the most important thing? Is the love missing in Corinth missing at Ada Bible nearly 2,000 years later? It’s a sobering question and one that each of us must answer.

With Christmas just around the corner, many of us will be in situations where we’ll answer that question. We’ll be with relatives whose lifestyle we think is destructive. We can be in challenging political discussions. We’ll again face custody issues with an ex-spouse. Each of these is another opportunity for us to show “the most excellent way” (1 Corinthians 12:31)—the way of love.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Read slowly through 1 Corinthians 13. Allow its descriptions of love to sink deeply into your heart. As you do, think ahead to some challenging situations you might face over Christmas and the new year. Commit these to the Lord, asking for the help of his Spirit to show others “the most excellent way” of love.
