TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Read: Luke 1:26-38

Listen: Luke 1

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Not even married and a virgin, Mary is going to have a baby. Not just any baby but God’s son. This will change everything for Mary, her fiancé, her family and the entire world. It wasn’t easy to be pregnant and not married. Add in raising and training up the Savior of the world. Despite all this pressure, Mary gives a simple but profound response, “I am the Lord’s servant” (Luke 1:38a).

God won’t ask us to give birth to his son but does ask us to do something pretty important. He asks us to carry Jesus with us as we interact with our families, go to work, talk with classmates, unwrap white elephant gifts and post online. When we do this, we are being the Lord’s servant, just like Mary.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Consider what it means for you to be God’s servant. God wants to transform every area of our life. He can only do that if we give him permission. At the top of a piece of paper or in your journal, write the words “I am the Lord’s servant.” Create a list of the different spheres of your life, including your relationships, job, school, friends, hobbies or other areas. Where do you feel like you are holding back from God, and how can you give that to him as his servant today?
