TODAY’S MESSAGE

Knowing and understanding God’s will can be confusing. But it doesn’t have to be. Paul has given us some pretty clear guidelines in Romans 12:1-2. He emphasizes taking some specific actions that will prepare us to understand what God wants for us.

Paul urges us to present ourselves to God by obeying him as an act of worship. Living a daily life of obedience is the first stage of knowing and doing his will. Learning how to obey is accomplished by renewing our minds with his Word. As we read, study and memorize the Bible, we will know what to do—and not do—according to his will. Pastor Aaron Buer reminds us, “the right decision for you will never contradict Scripture.”

Most people want God to show them specifics like who to marry, where to go to college or what job to take. His Word doesn’t give those kinds of details. But obeying him in the specific ways his Word teaches, and renewing our minds with his truth, makes his general will clear so we become more sensitive to his leading. When the way forward is unclear, obey what is clear. If we’re not following God in our daily life, it’s highly unlikely he will direct us in those more specific areas.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

As you commit to knowing God through his Word, his desires will become clearer. Pray and ask, “Father, help me know you more deeply so I can move confidently on the path you have set before me.”
