TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” Genesis 12:2-3

TODAY’S MESSAGE
The promises God gives to Abram are personal, national and global. They are personal because God blesses him individually. They are national because they involve descendants and land (of which he has neither at this point). They are global because they’re fulfilled through Jesus (Acts 3:25-26). In fact, the New Testament begins with the powerful reminder of God keeping his promise to Abram (to be renamed Abraham). Matthew’s genealogy of Jesus the Messiah is traced all the way back to Abraham (Matthew 1:1-2). God did what he told Abram he would do—bless everyone with the offer of forgiveness of sin through the suffering servant, Jesus.
God tells Abram that “all peoples on earth” will be blessed because of what he is going to do. “All peoples” include us. Because of what Jesus did on the cross, we can experience forgiveness of sin and live in right relationship with the God of Abraham. There is no greater blessing than this!
But we must want and receive this blessing. The apostle John says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). God never forces himself on anyone. We must receive him.
