January 17 | Ripples of Obedience

January 17, 2020

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

…and you will be a blessing. Genesis 12:2b

Read: Genesis 12:2

Listen: Genesis 12

TODAY’S MESSAGE

God invites Abram into this journey with several promises. He promises that a great nation will come from him, he will personally be blessed, and his name will be great. But the promised blessings extend beyond Abram. God tells him, “…and you will be a blessing” (Genesis 12:2b). Abraham is going to be a blessing-bearer.

When we toss a stone into a pond, we see ripples that keep going and expanding. The impact is farther than the initial splash. IAs Pastor Jeff Manion tells us in the video clip below—it’s the same when we move in obedience. We have no idea who God is going to bless as a result of our faithfulness. It could be our grandchildren observing a God-honoring marriage of 40 years and counting. A co-worker seeing how a Jesus-follower responds when a company goes through challenging times. A friend watching us mentor a young person for the past three years. We have no idea who God desires to bless when we trust him and move.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Realize there’s so much more at stake than you. Look around and notice all who could feel the ripple of your trust in the Lord. It might be children, grandchildren, friends, neighbors, co-workers, employees/employers, teachers and others. Know that your ripples will extend beyond your lifetime to people who are not yet born. We are blessed to be a blessing. It’s an incredible thought! Thank God for the blessings he will pour on many people as a result of your obedience.
