TODAY’S MESSAGE

Jesus taught that all of the law is summed up in loving God and loving others. In the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus shows us how love involves serving. Love serves those who sit outside our social circle or maybe even a sworn enemy. Love serves by bending to bind up wounds. Love serves as it pays out of its own pocket. Like the Good Samaritan, love sees and meets a need.

People cross our paths who are beat up and broken down. It might be a friend in a hurtful marriage. It could be a co-worker with a chronic illness. Perhaps it is a neighbor kid who spends a lot of time alone. Maybe we hear needs as we strike up a conversation with someone in a checkout lane. God will equip us to serve as he reveals the needs around us.

While serving can be spontaneous, we can prepare for spontaneity. We may set aside a little from each paycheck to be ready for an impromptu gift. We can begin the day by asking God to open our eyes and ears to how we can serve those we encounter that day.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Who has crossed your path that you can serve in love today? Think of one thing you could do to serve that person—then do it! Even a simple act like sending an “I’m thinking of you” text message can share God’s love in a powerful way.
