TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Abram immediately encounters conflict when he decides to follow God. After his beautiful wife Sarai is taken into Pharaoh’s harem, Abram lies to save himself. Following God’s intervention on his behalf, Abram’s trust in God deepens as he responds to the next two conflicts with more faith. First, he sacrifices land rights to his nephew, Lot. Next, he sacrifices the spoils of war (rightfully his) to God and to the king of Sodom.
Abram’s sacrifices for the sake of peace foreshadows the Gospel of peace. Just as Abram forfeits his rights, Jesus sacrifices his Godly rights to become human and die on the cross so we can have peace with God (Philippians 2:5-6). But making peace always requires sacrifice. Jesus was willing to make that sacrifice for us for our sin problem. To be at peace with God, we have to place our faith and trust in Jesus.
